WarWords

It makes me cringe and it makes me see red when people comment about someone "losing the battle with cancer."

It is a horrible, lazy platitude.
It implies that they could have won, if only they tried harder.

My friends did not lose a battle. They died of metastatic breast cancer.
Even in death, they won by the way they lived, by how many people they influenced,  and by how many love and mourn them.

If anyone lost, it is us who remain behind, with holes in our hearts shaped as those killed by cancer.

My  friends are free from pain.
My friends left cancer behind.

May they rest in love and in peace.
May they rest in love.

Please, don't ever say that they lost a battle.
